What is Project Pan?

The pan project most commonly refers to Project Pan, a beauty challenge where people commit to using up products they already own before buying new ones.
The name comes from the term "hitting pan," which means using a product, like a pressed powder, until the metal pan underneath is visible.
The goal is to reduce overconsumption, declutter collections, and save money.

Key aspects of Project Pan
Objective: To use up existing makeup and skincare products completely, rather than letting them accumulate or go to waste.

"Hitting pan": The term refers to the visual milestone of seeing the metal pan at the bottom of a product's container.
Broader application: While it originated with makeup, the concept extends to any beauty and personal care products, including lotions, serums, and nail polish.

Motivation: The trend is driven by a desire for more intentional consumption, financial pressures, and a growing awareness of the environmental impact of overconsumption.

Community and tracking: Participants often share their progress on social media platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, sometimes using spreadsheets or other tracking methods.

Mindset shift: The project encourages a shift from impulsive buying to more conscious and mindful spending.
